Portland, Oregon
5522 North Albina Avenue at Killingsworth

Back to the Oregon Original Theatre Installations page

The Colonial Theatre originally had a 2/7 Kimball installed in 1924 at a cost of $8,800. According to the Junchen opus lists, a Kinura, Xylophone, and Piano were added in 1926 (bringing the instrument up to a 2/8) at a cost of $1,805.

From the Oregon Historical Society web site:

Hudson's Colonial Theatre opened in 1925 and seated 620 people. The Colonial served the surrounding neighborhood until 1973, when the theater was converted into a church. Today the building houses the Albina Church of God. The old marquee and elegant brick exterior are reminders of times past, when the Colonial provided ongoing entertainment for North Portland residents.

Sandy Balcom, Kimball's Northwest Representative, prepared this form to help Kimball design an instrument appropriate for the theatre.

Program from the Colonial, c.1934

Interestingly, 350 seats from the Colonial showed up on the eBay Internet auction site in October, 2003. According to the eBay item description, "the theater went out of business in the 70's and the building was used as a church until this year." Here are the pictures from the ad:
